Program Description

Hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body

Massage therapists are essential members of the interprofessional healthcare team, working with a broad range of patients. Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body. The Massage Therapy program is geared towards those individuals with an interest in health care and helping people, an aptitude for science and problem solving, and direct hands-on application of skills. This three-year diploma is designed to meet the educational requirements for certification, through examination, as a Registered Massage Therapist. This fully integrated program covers the basic biological sciences such as anatomy and physiology, massage therapy-specific knowledge and skills, and clinical reasoning and therapeutic decision-making. Graduates are prepared to work in various practice settings focusing on wellness-oriented treatment. Athletes, people with musculoskeletal injuries, pregnancy, infants, seniors, and those challenged by a variety of medical conditions like cancer, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes would benefit from the treatments provided by a Registered Massage Therapist.
